Constellation Observing System of Meteorology

This animation shows the 5 most recently processed occultations from the CHAMP mission.

These occultations involve a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite (in this case the CHAMP satellite) and a GPS satellite in a much higher orbit.

The image looks down on the CHAMP satellite in the middle and shows the GPS signal ray path between this satellite and the GPS satellite, which is off of the page. The dot on the ray path line shows the point of closest approach of the ray path with the Earth. This point is the location of the sounding profile.

Current time is: 2008.186.13.25.02  Click on image to see details of these occultations
