This animation shows the 5 most recently processed occultations from the FORMOSAT-3/COSMIC mission.

These occultations involve a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite (in this case the COSMIC satellite) and a GPS satellite in a much higher orbit.

The image looks down on the COSMIC satellite in the middle and shows the GPS signal ray path between this satellite and the GPS satellite, which is off of the page. The dot on the ray path line shows the point of closest approach of the ray path with the Earth. This point is the location of the sounding profile.
