Fourth Joint Korea-U.S. Workshop on Mesoscale Observation, Data Assimilation and Modeling for Severe Weather : Trip Details

13 - 15 February 2006
Seoul, South Korea

Dates: The workshop will be held Monday through Wednesday, 13-15 February 2006. We may arrange additional scientific visits and cultural activities for the remainder of the week. So, we anticipate that the participants will arrive on Sunday, 12 February and may depart Saturday, 18 February or Sunday, 19 February 2006.

Location: Seoul, South Korea. Students and speakers will be staying at Hoam Faculty House at Seoul National University.

Travel: The UCAR/COSMIC office will handle travel for all participants (including the invited speakers and students).

Participants: We anticipate having 12-14 invited speakers and 10 US graduate students at the workshop.

Exchange rate: The exchange rate from dollars (USD) to won (KRW) is approximately 1→1000. Visit xe.com for the exact and up-to-date currency exchange rate.

Miscellaneous: South Korea currently uses 220V 60Hz AC power supplies with type C or F plugs. Go here for more info.


Information for speakers

Registration: Please register using the online registration form as soon as possible. We will need to know your contact info, presentation title, whether or not you will have anyone accompanying you, etc.

Abstract: After registering, please submit an AMS format extended abstract describing your presentation, as well as the presentation itself. Please limit the length of your abstract to 4-6 pages. Abstract figures may be either color or black and white. The deadline for abstracts is 20 January 2006.

Presentation: Invited speakers will be allocated 30 minutes for their presentation (25 minutes presentation time and 5 minutes for questions/discussion). The deadline for presentation submissions is 06 February 2006.

Students: Please feel free to encourage qualified graduate students to attend the workshop. They can apply here. Attending students will need a letter of recommendation.

Information for students

Application: The application deadline is 19 December 2005. Students will be notified regarding their acceptance by 23 December 2005. Click here to fill out the online application.

Transcripts: You do not need to submit any transcripts.

Poster: You will need to give a poster presentation during a poster session, preceded by a three minute oral introduction with a brief PowerPoint® presentation. You will also be expected to give a 10-minute presentation at Friday's Student Conference. Please print your poster beforehand and bring it with you to the workshop.
